Frequently Asked Questions

Does a Tier 1 Solar panel mean quality?

No! unfortunately Tier 1 only refers to the financial status of a company and in no way means quality. When Solar businesses make claims of Tier 1 panels without naming brands it generally means you’re getting inferior panels.

Are all Solar panels equal?

No! inferior panels generally degrade at a faster rate meaning the system will produce less power over time. Inferior panels generally produce less power when they are HOT compared to higher quality panels meaning less power in Summer when they are at their hottest. The panels we offer are respected in the industry as very high quality.

Who organises paperwork in relation to my retailer?

We look after the entire process from approvals to having your meter swapped, after all we know the processes required. Some companies will try handball that off to the customer.

Are your installers licenced?

Yes! By law there must be at least one licensed person on site to oversee the entire installation and you are within your right to ask see the Accredited installers license as well as an Electrical license. We as an industry encourage customers to ask see licensing to stop illegal unlicensed works. I personally attend all jobs.

Multiple companies are advertising in the daily paper really cheap prices compared to yours, why is that?

Some companies are related and appear to be competitors when in fact they are linked in some way. Reality is cheaper pricing doesn’t mean a better deal as most cheaper systems sold require expensive repairs or even full replacements down the track.

What warranties do you offer?

My installations are warrantied for workmanship for 5 years, panels and inverters have differing warranties as listed adjacent the brands listed on my site.

What do I get after the installation is complete?

You will receive full instruction on the operation of the system including monitoring plus as is required by the regulators a file containing all relevant information about your solar including serial numbers, warranty information, approvals, invoice, maintenance information, alarm information amongst others.

Do Solar systems need be serviced?

Yes, they do! just as a car needs servicing to keep it running correctly solar needs to be serviced to ensure its operating to its best. I encourage systems installed by Griffin Renewable to be serviced by the company as third party interference can lead to possible damage.

Do you do finance or accept credit card?

Yes we can help with credit cards and finance for both domestic and commercial sized systems, the cost of the repayments often are cheaper than the current electricity bills, with huge savings once the loan is paid off.

. I’ve heard of different types of Solar systems what’s the difference between String inverters, Micro inverters and Optimisers?

Each system has pros and cons and are tailor made and suggested on a site by site basis

String inverters are generally wall mounted units representing the bulk of solar that you see, they generate the power from a string of panels facing the same direction plugged together, shading can reduce the overall power of the whole string, they are a more economic type of system if roof areas are not seriously impacted by shade.

Micro Inverters create power from all the panels individually, shading only affects the shaded panel not the whole string making these systems generate more power when roofs are shaded, they also allow for complicated roof designs. These systems are more expensive due to additional materials

Optimisers are the middle road by optimising panels when partially shaded to reduce the overall effect on the system.
